My name is Maggie and I’m a 23 year old, queer artist from Massachusetts. I’ve been an artist my whole life and have experimented with many different mediums (oil, acrylic, tempera, and water color paints, printmaking, pottery, photography, drawing, sculpture, woodworking, digital art… you get it). I love making good art that I like and feel a deep connection to, but I also like making really low stakes art just for the sake of creating. Like anything, creation is a practice and doesn’t have to be perfect. HAVE SOME FUN!!!
I draw inspiration from the natural environment, my surroundings, my imagination, and how my #childhood #cancer #trauma has shaped my perspective. I explore concepts of interconnectedness, complexity, nuance, and generally being overwhelmed existing in an oppressive system. I think and create about empathy, art & joy as resistance. I believe that in order to build a more equitable and joyful future, you have to dream about what it could look like and use that as a roadmap to move through life.
I have a Master’s in Sustainability Science from UMass Amherst. I learned about humans impact on the environment, the climate crisis, systems thinking, and creative problem solving skills. This knowledge deeply influences my belief systems and therefore the art that I create. It also deeply stresses me out.
I’ve used art to cope for most of my life. Seems like as good a tool I can use while navigating my mid-twenties! Scroll down to see some of my work!
